This post is in response to the blog post at smashingmagazine.com that was titled “The Gradual Disappearance Of Flash Websites“

The overall theme of their post was that I should use JavaScript more then I use flash because of standards. Well after having a look at their use of JavaScript/HTML based ads that spammed the greater first part of that blog post I thought wtf do they know.

And what do you get after you remove all that crap.

Crap is still crap even if it’s made with Javascript. If you don’t like crap on the web then get better at what you know and focus on ethics and quality and worry less about standards. Smashing mag can tell the world all that is wrong with the web and flash, but in the end they are just as ignorant and should keep their opinions to them self until they can walk the talk.

My flash player is uptodate and so is my CS4. I have 10.0.2 installed and the CS4 install was a reinstalled not only 2 months ago. I have googled with no results of any one else complaining of creating damaged files from CS4.

What should I do?

Thanks
- Josh Chernoff.

::::EDIT:::: UPDATE:::: Looks like unchecking Timestamp from the digital signature license option did the trick.

I made another class to add to your tool box of Full Screen Image classes. This class is great, it will take your image and fined the closes size to fill the full screen of the browser with the image and then pan the areas of the image that have been clipped off. This also has on the fly resizing for browser resizing and will know if it needs to pan vertically or horizontally automatically.

Example:
Note Click on the example to go in to full screen mode.

KEEP THE WEB FRESH!!

Initialization is simple just import the class create a new instance with a url in the constructor and addChild and you have a full screen image that pans. I have added a example fla in the zip as well.

Enjoy.

Every time that I go to http://thefwa.com the first thing I think about is how all the sites listed there are using a image as the background that spans the full browser. That is the norm now for high end sites. So I decided to make a class that loads an image and will do the same thing as all the highend sites out there.

FullScreenImage lets you take a jpg, png or gif and scale it to fit the full size of the stage. This is used to create a site with an image that spans the full browser screen, as well scaling or cropping depending on the scale of the browser window.
Features:

Bitmap Smoothing for up scaling images *NOTE* may need crossdomain permissions via crossdomain.xml

Stage alignment and scaling

To make this work all you need to do is create an instance of the FullScreenImage Class and pass the constructor the URL of the image, the alignment constance which can been found by the FullScreenAlign Class and chosing on of the constance. The image to the left will show you how your image will be placed and scaled from. The FullScreenImage also relays all the Loader events that are triggurd when the image is loading so that you can listen to progress, completion and error.
<del datetime="2009-04-06T15:58:44+00:00"></del>

::: Update :::

This has been updated by a full screen Libray class that can do video, images and swf files.

I have also created a starter package for people looking to learn how to put this to use as a slide show : http://gfxcomplex.com/forsale/full-screen-slide-show-starter-files/
